A game of two halves at Spray this afternoon. Turned up at about 2pm to find lots out on 4.7-5.3's, so rigged my 5.0, grabbed a harness from Krafty (cheers mate - perfect!) and headed out for some fun. I knew people were getting better at Cooden, but always nice to sail with a crowd and I figured the tide was about to turn so wasn't going to waste time driving. Had a blast for about an hour, then most people packed up because the wind lulled for a while. It came back, so all was good with just three of us out.

Then on an outside gybe, my fecking mastfoot came off. I've had a few scares with it before - Pro Limit and it's sh*t. You do it up tight on the beach and it comes loose on the water. Other times you do it up tight and you have to bludgeon it to get it off. Anyway, the thing came unscrewed, but thankfully didn't lose the washer, so I had about 10 minutes of drifting and swearing and swearing and drifting as I tried to put the thing back together in chop. All the while scratching my board into a fine mess and generally loosing my sense of humour. Then James the Doctor pitched up and all was well, as he held the board enough for me to put it all back together. I sailed back to shore, a long way downwind, only to find that I now couldn't undo the f*cker to get it back in a decent position in the track. So I spent about 30 minutes fighting the Eastbourne conveyor belt upwind before vowing to chuck the mastfoot away. James was sailing back upwind with me all the way until the last run in. I turned round and he seemed to be losing ground and falling in lots and within 10 minutes he was way beyond the Leisure Centre. I packed up and then figured that the least I could do was go and fetch his kit - so all's well that ends well. I'd rather not have that kind of drama too often though.

I even sighted Southern Surf. Sorry, I should have introduced myself. I was the guy who said hello just as you were leaving - I was about to delve into the back of Krafty's van, which is not always a pleasant experience.
